“I was born in New York City, on a Monday.”
- James Brown

Raised between Manhattan and Long Island, Drummer Washington Duke began his musical journey a New Yorker. His desire to be closer to the source of the music that infected his spirit at a young age drew him to New Orleans in 2021, where he is currently based.

As a child, Washington was fed a steady diet of classic rock & roll, delta blues, early r&b and modern jazz, thanks to a record collection given to him by his older brother. He went on to study jazz under Paul Jeffrey (Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, BB King) at Duke University, and continued his drumming education with Michael Carvin (Jackie McLean, Freddie Hubbard, Hampton Hawes). Washington moved to Brooklyn in 2000, where he performed with artists across all genres of popular music - Ladybug Mecca, Yah Supreme, Babaloo, Pimps of Joytime, Navegante, and Gitkin, to name a few. In 2015 he founded his own project - Revel In Dimes - pulling from the rock & roll, delta blues, and soul music that had been shaping his musical sensibility since his youth.

Reconnecting with his love of Jazz, Washington conceived a debut album under his own name, and recorded in August of 2021. In Time is set to be released November 22nd, 2024.

Washington performs locally in New Orleans and tours internationally with Brooklyn born artist, Gitkin.
